When the sun shines, Majorca is one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Europe. It has a stunning coastline, sandy beaches, a lively capital, and gorgeous mountain scenery.

The island is on the Mediterranean coast between Barcelona and Valencia. Its capital, Palma de Majorca, is a bustling city that is home to the beautiful cathedral, La Seu. There are also plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and fantastic places to stroll along the seafront or in the old town. If you’re here in spring or autumn, then you’ll be able to take part in some of the many festivals or enjoy the local produce at the market.

It’s often said that Mallorca has two and perhaps even three different climates. The Mediterranean climate of the south and east, which is like that of the Costa Blanca, is warmer and more humid; the central interior has a continental climate, with higher temperatures and colder winters; and in the north, there’s a sub-arctic climate, which makes for some of Europe’s best skiing.

Also, a series of mountain ranges cut through Majorca, creating microclimates in different parts of the island. These range from sun-drenched plains to pine forests to deep valleys full of chestnut trees and wildflowers. The winter period is significant for skiing, while summer is hot enough for swimming in crystal clear waters.

Why should you visit them? It offers an array of attractions to suit any taste and budget. The sun-kissed, emerald green sea beckons, waves crashing onto the golden sandy beaches. Here you can find Spain’s most popular holiday destination to enjoy the spectacular vistas of the Mediterranean coastline. Mallorca has been a Spanish holiday destination for many years. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe because of its proximity to mainland Europe and its climate. One of Mallorca’s prime attractions is that it is one of Europe’s last unspoiled paradises with an abundance of natural beauty, including sandy beaches, forests, and mountains.

How to get there?

If you are planning on visiting Majorca this year, you may wonder how to get there. There are several options.

The most obvious way is to fly there. The airport closest to Palma de Majorca is Son Sant Joan, which is on the island’s southeast – about 7 miles from Palma city center. Direct flights are available from many European cities, including London, Paris, and Amsterdam, and New York and Dubai.

If you prefer not to fly, then you can take a ferry or cruise ship to Majorca either from mainland Spain or one of the other islands in the Balearics (such as Ibiza). The largest ferry operator in the area is Balearia, which provides regular sailings between Barcelona and Palma de Majorca and Valencia Airport for those arriving by air into Spain’s third city. You can also get ferries from mainland Italy via Sardinia (with Grimaldi Lines).

Fuerteventura is one of the Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean, 100 km from Africa and 1,350 km from Europe. It is part of Spain. Its name means “strong wind” in Spanish and Portuguese.

It has a population of about 74,000 (2013) and an area of 640 km², making it the second most populated island of Spain’s Canary Islands, after Tenerife. The island is known for its volcanic landscape and diverse environment.

Fuerteventura was inhabited by Guanches, a Berber person who probably migrated from northern Africa to the islands during the period of Roman domination.

The indigenous inhabitants used to live in caves and built few stone structures. However, some remnants remain today of simple constructions: dolmens and menhirs, dating back to pre-Roman.

A great holiday destination with a lot to see and do. The best time to visit the island is between May and October when the weather is best.

Fuerteventura is the ultimate island for those who want to escape the world for a few days. With 75 miles of coast is home to some world’s most pioneering surf spots. Illa de Ons is one of the Spanish islands of the Mediterranean Sea. It is between the towns of Salou and Cambrils and is part of the natural park of the Costa Daurada.

The beach has fine gray sand and turquoise water. Besides its own beach, this cove has four other beaches that are very close by foot. The first one is El Rafalet, which is an enclosed bay with white sand. The second beach is called Cala Barques, which ends at a cliff that reaches into the sea. Cala Llevata is another cove with a beach full of tiny boats; many people come here to dive or snorkel because there are many fish in these waters. The last one is Cala Morisca, which offers a great landscape and also allows diving and snorkeling because there are much little fish as well.

The island’s flora includes broom shrubs, tamarisks, myrtles, and junipers. Ons also has a pine forest that was planted for erosion control purposes; today it allows the growth of pine trees but also Mediterranean bushes such as myrtle and rosemary trees.

The only way to get around is on foot or by bike, which can be rented on the island.

The beaches are spotless and pretty and this is a great place for families, but also for couples looking for some peace. There’s only one village with some restaurants and bars, but nothing fancy – just simple places where you can have a good meal enjoying the beautiful views over the ocean.

How to get there?

The easiest way to get to the island is by boat. The ferry leaves from Bueu and takes about 35 minutes to reach the island. The boats are small, so my advice is to arrive early (at least 30 minutes before departure time) to ensure a spot on the boat. There are many small boats that depart from different spots around Galicia and take you for a day trip or for a few hours.

There are over two hundred islands in the Canary Islands. La Gomera is the largest of them, in the archipelago’s northwest. This is a place that attracts many visitors who come to experience the island’s beauty and culture.

The island has a rich cultural heritage with a history going back to prehistoric times when people inhabited the island for thousands of years. The Phoenicians and Carthaginians are believed to have made stops here, and there is evidence of an ancient fishing village at Caleta de Fuste where remains of houses have been found.

La Gomera has an excellent infrastructure that makes it ideal for tourism, but it has never been commercially developed. The island is small and compact, with spectacular beaches, rock formations, caves, forests, and lovely villages. There are two airports one in Tuineje and the other in Masca.

Over the centuries, El Hierro was a favored destination for ship-wrecked sailors and others seeking shelter. The island has always been a refuge for those seeking solitude.

To this day, the island is known as one of the most isolated islands in Europe. Nowadays, it’s a popular destination for divers and hikers. Its isolation has also made it a haven for artists and writers who need to escape the noise and colorful lights of the mainland.

In recent years, it has become increasingly popular among travelers seeking a respite from big cities and their accompanying crowds. The island is now home to an archaeological museum (where visitors can learn about its history and discover its unique flora and fauna), two caves that were flooded by volcanic activity centuries ago, several beaches, restaurants serving fresh seafood, and several bars that serve some of the best sangria in Spain. The natural beauty of El Hierro is on full display at its many hiking trails, where visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the ocean or hike through lush jungle-like vegetation.

How to get there?

Getting to El-Hierro is not as easy as on the other islands, but it certainly is worth the little extra effort. There are ferries from the islands of Tenerife, La-Palma, and Gran-Canaria.

The ferry from Tenerife travels daily from the port of Los Cristianos to Valverde. The journey lasts about 4 hours.

There are also some ferries from Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife North) to Valverde twice a week, which last about 6 hours.

From La-Palma, there is a ferry departing once a week from the port of Santa Cruz de la-Palma to Valverde, which lasts about 2 hours. It operates on Tuesdays only.

There are three islets: Isla de la Graciosa, Isleta del Fraile and Montuosa. They were declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in November 2002.

The islands had no permanent population until after 1850; they supported military and fishing activities (mainly tuna fishing) but are now uninhabited. They are administered from Melilla.

La Graciosa is a paradise for tourists. The island is a protected nature reserve with stunning unspoiled beaches, crystal clear waters, and spectacular views. There are no hotels or roads, but there are plenty of small apartments to rent. There are two villages on the island: Caleta del Sebo and Casas de Pedro Barba.

Although it looks as if time has stood still on this island for decades, there are plenty of modern facilities for tourists to enjoy. The principal town of Caleta del Sebo boasts bars, restaurants, and cafes where you can sample local Canarian dishes or the more traditional Spanish cuisine, along with shops selling clothes, gifts, and souvenirs.

There are many activities to enjoy on the island, including hiking, cycling, and swimming in some fantastic locations such as Playa Francesa–one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. You can also go on boat trips around the island or two other islands that surround it.

How to get there?

The first way is by ferry from Orzola (Lanzarote) or Órzola (La-Graciosa).

The second way is from Caleta de Sebo (La-Graciosa). The boat trip there takes around 15 minutes.

If you travel to La-Graciosa from Lanzarote, you must first get to Orzola by bus. Once there, make your way down the steps at the port to buy your ticket. Once you have purchased your ticket, head back up the stone steps and wait for the ferry to arrive. The journey time depends on sea conditions but should take between 30 and 45 minutes. Once in La-Graciosa, you will be dropped off at Caleta de Sebo.

Cies Islands is a small archipelago of seven islands about 4km off the coast of Alicante, Spain. It was declared a national park in 1992 and is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain. Each island has its own character, and it is not unusual to find crowds on the beaches during the high season.

Although the national park is only open to the public during the high season, there are many activities available on each island that can be enjoyed year-round. For example, locals will tell you that if you visit Cies Islands in summer, you can enjoy “la playa Nueva” (the new beach) while the locals enjoy “la playa Vieja” (the old beach).

It’s also not unusual to hear people use an archaic term like “Cesinos” to refer to tourists from Spain. It’s probably a reference to the fact that Germans are referred to as “Kasens” or Dutch people are called “Trouwens.”

Inhabited since ancient times, today they are one of Galicia’s major tourist attractions. The islands were voted as one of “The World’s 10 Best Destinations” by users of TripAdvisor in 2014.

How to get there? To get to the islands, you must sail by boat from Baiona or Vigo. There are daily trips from both cities in the high season, although these can be increased depending on demand.

To get to Baiona from Madrid or Barcelona, you need to take a bus that takes about 10 hours; however, there is also an option to fly from Barcelona to Vigo (1h30) for a €50 return. From here, you must take a taxi (15 minutes) or a local bus (20 minutes) to the port of Vigo.

From Lisbon, it is possible to go directly to Oporto or Vigo by bus (4h30), with prices starting at €27 one way. You can also fly for about €40 return.

15. Columbretes islands

Columbretes islands, spain islands

Islas Columbretes are a group of small islands and islets located in the Mediterranean Sea approximately 45 nautical miles (83 km; 52 mi) off the east coast of Spain. The archipelago is composed of two main islands, Cabeço de Medusa and Cabeço del Víbora, and around 20 small islets. The islands are part of the province of Castellón and within the municipal term of Alcalà de Xivert, in the Valencian Community.

In Roman times it was known as the ‘Islands of Fire’. This name was given because of their natural gas emissions which were mistaken for fires from a distance.

The archipelago’s ecology has been affected by pollution from several oil spills throughout its history. In an effort to prevent further environmental damage, the area has been designated a national park in 1988 by the Spanish government.

How to get there? There are two ways of getting to these islands: by air or by sea. The most common way is by boat, and if you are in Castellón province, there are two companies that organize day trips to Columbretes-Islands: Trasmapi and Mediterráneo Submarino.
